Does Instagram Pay for Views? What 1,000 Views Is Really Worth

Unlike YouTube or Facebook, Instagram does not share ad revenue with most creators. So a Reel with a million views can pay exactly nothing. Here is where the money really comes from, and how views turn into it.

The short answer

Instagram does not pay creators per view. There is no general ad revenue share like YouTube's Partner Program or Facebook's Content Monetization. Meta has run invite-only bonus programs from time to time, but they come and go and most creators never see them. For practical purposes, 1,000 Instagram views is worth $0 from Instagram itself.

Views still matter enormously, because they are how you grow the audience that brands pay for.

How Instagram compares

What each platform pays per 1,000 views
Platform Pays per 1,000 views
Instagram$0 for most creators
YouTube (long-form)$1.20 – $8.00
Facebook$0.30 – $4.00
TikTok (Creator Rewards)$0.40 – $1.00
YouTube Shorts$0.02 – $0.15

That is also why the same Reel cross-posted to Facebook can earn a small payout there and nothing on Instagram.

Where Instagram creators actually make money

1. Sponsored posts

This is the biggest income source for almost every Instagram creator. A common starting point is about $10 per 1,000 followers for a single feed post, with a realistic range of $6 to $30 per 1,000. Reels usually command 1.3 to 1.5 times a feed post because they reach beyond your followers; Stories sit at about 0.3 times. Engagement and niche move the number most. See our pricing guide for the full method.

2. Affiliate links

Commission on products you recommend, through brand programs, Amazon's influencer program or Instagram's own affiliate features where available. It works at any follower count if your audience trusts your picks.

3. Subscriptions

Eligible creators can charge a monthly fee for exclusive Stories, Reels, Lives and a subscriber badge. It suits creators with a loyal core audience who want more of you.

4. Gifts and badges

Viewers can send gifts on Reels and buy badges during Lives. The amounts are usually small, but they reward content that people feel strongly about.

5. Your own products

Courses, presets, templates, coaching, merch. Instagram is an excellent storefront, and you keep most of the revenue.

Turning views into money

Because Instagram pays nothing for views directly, the goal of a viral Reel is to convert attention into something that does pay: followers, email subscribers or clicks to your offer.

What an Instagram account can earn

A 10,000-follower account with healthy engagement typically charges $100 to $250 per sponsored post. Two to four deals a month puts that account at roughly $200 to $1,000 a month, before affiliate income. A 100,000-follower account at the same engagement can charge about ten times as much per post. Questions people ask

How much does Instagram pay for 1,000 views?

For most creators, nothing. Instagram has no general ad revenue share, so views alone do not earn money. Creators earn from sponsored posts, affiliate links, subscriptions and gifts, and occasionally from invite-only bonus programs.

How much does Instagram pay for 1 million views?

Instagram itself usually pays nothing for a million views. The value is indirect: a Reel with a million views can bring thousands of new followers, which raises what brands will pay you for future sponsored posts.

How many followers do you need to make money on Instagram?

There is no official minimum for brand deals or affiliate links. Many creators land their first paid partnerships between 1,000 and 10,000 followers, especially in a focused niche with strong engagement. Features like Subscriptions have their own eligibility rules.

How much do Instagram influencers charge per post?

A common baseline is about $10 per 1,000 followers for a feed post, with a typical range of $6 to $30 per 1,000 depending on engagement and niche. Reels usually command 1.3 to 1.5 times a feed post, and Stories about 0.3 times.
